Throughout their lives, men should be aware of the benefits of implementing and maintaining a wellness program that facilitates a reasonable expectation of one being able to do what he wants in life. In school, boys learn about dental care, exercise and proper diet but it is too easy to slip into poor personal hygiene and improper diet as one ages.

During growth and development, boys should be monitored by knowledgeable healthcare providers who verify milestones are being reached as boys mature into men. Any significant variation in the timeline of development should be investigated completely as to contributing underlying cause(s).

While physical health is very important, in this age of increasing prevalence of male suicide and fatal motor vehicle accidents, psychological health and well being as well as safety precautions while in motor vehicles (use of seatbelts, designated drivers, formal driver's education, etc.) need to be emphasized.

Tumors of the testicle are common in young men. Therefore, testicular self-examination should be learned. Avoidance of tobacco and excessive alcohol consumption are advised. Proper diet and frequent exercise can not be over-emphasized.

Establishing and maintaining a healthcare provider patient relationship is needed for men to have as a resource in their quest for a healthy life. Periodic physical examinations and laboratory tests such as a complete blood count, urine analysis, prostate specific antigen (PSA), and stool blood test go a long way in monitoring for possible significant medical problems and detecting them early enough in time for medical or surgical intervention. Tests to ascertain the state of men's health and wellness are available to our customers.
